Re: Mah New Computer

Tbh I can't be arsed waiting for AMD to get out a tri-channel compatible CPU before upgrading, my current comp is starting to get quite old, running on 4½ years i believe.

An old AMD athlon 64 3500+ single core CPU is what I currently use.

Re: Mah New Computer

Going Win7 64bit RTM. And I'll have 2 120mm fans for the cpu alone, and 2 extras to pull air through the cabinet in 1 direction and 2 more in another direction, so 6 120mm fans total tongue

1 of those 120'ies are in front of the HDD's and helps keep the airflow going over GFX card+CPU

I guess you have it by now right? smile Like I posted, I wanted to upgrade as well. I did some research and found out that 12 cores next year aren't gonna be the best choice for gaming. Who needs 6 or even 12 cores when most games can't even use them right?

So I've been looking around the internetz figuring out what to get, and you seem to know your stuff so I was wondering if you could answer me some questions wink My pc is gonna be quite identical to yours with a few exceptions. I'm mainly going to use it for gaming, or wel.... WoW anyway. Most likely the system is overkill for WoW but who cares right? big_smile
Which brings me to the following questions;

- How do you like it, and how does it run WoW and other games?
- I myself am a big Scythe cooler fan but that Noctua you have seems really imba (altough expensive). Would you recommend it? (Noise is a big concern for me)
- I've been looking at your mobo v.s. the P6T (which I believe Mojo has). The two seem very similar to me. What made you choose the Rampage over it's competitors?
- You got yourself an SSD yikes Does it 'work' well with games like WoW? Or is the difference with regular HD's only noticeable when moving data's and stuff? And of course, would you recommend it for a gaming pc?
- What pc-case did you get? (yes I care!tongue)

And the final one; anything on the shopping list that you regret buying? Or has it all been a succes so far?

This PC is hopefully gonna be one of the best thought through buys I've ever done ^^

It's completed and running, yes.

I only have fps lag in wow in dalaran, but that's probably because wow sucks at utilizing multicore CPU's well, all other games i've taken to max settings and they run without the slightest fps lag.

Pustbunker wrote:

My noctua fan is running full speed with 2 fans on it (comes with 2 standard) and it's still quieter than my old CPU fan+cooler which only had 1 fan.

Better OC features and a reccomendation from a friend. One slightly annoying feature on the mobo is that it has alot of fancy lights on it to make it look cool in the dark, but that just ends up being annoying when all you have is a 1 room apartment and you want to sleep at night, and the light pulses to full brightness at just the smallest movement in the room.

SSDs are awesome and fast for system drives, and the performance can actually be felt pretty well in games compared to an old 7200RPM disk. There's not much idea in getting it for a storage drive, mostly because of the small sizes of SSDs.

Cooler Master Centurion 590

The only thing i regret buying right now is the case, but i bought it over 9 months ago when i started the upgrade process and went for a new case, PSU and GFX card.

Right now I'd go for a Corsair Obsidian 800D Full Tower Chassis

Do the LEDS also turn on when the PC itself is powered off? Cause that would be a concern to me, I sleep right next to it. It's also the reason it's always off when I go to bed though.

The LEDs are always on so long as power is connected to the PC. I just flip the switch on the PSU to turn off the power when i go to bed.

I don't know if the P6T has the same features or whatnot tho.

Re: Mah New Computer

That's a very good tip, I was really close to getting it but this might change things. I'm probably going to switch over to the P6T since there isn't that much difference anyway. The LEDs are important to me as stupid as it may sound.

Re: Mah New Computer

Just ordered it, went for the P6TD Deluxe due to your input.
Thanks for that, really appreciate it ^^

Re: Mah New Computer

What I'm wondering though is if the P6T has the same LEDs that the R2 has.

Re: Mah New Computer

I did some research and found some user reviews on the R2E that were also annoyed by the lights. I didn't manage to find a single (user)review stating that with the P6T. It probably still has one or two LEDs but I guess it's not a huge light circus, like some people called it on the R2E. For now I can only hope.

Re: Mah New Computer

Well, the lights on the R2E is cool enough in a "look at my case" kinda way, and it also has lights on the back where you plug in the cables for when you are crawling below a dark table with not a whole lot of light beneath it. The problem where it gets annoying is if you have the PC in the same room as you sleep in, which I do, but I just turn off the power for it and it's not much of an issue.

Re: Mah New Computer

I got it the other day and assembled it. It appears the P6T only has a single feint light burning when the pc is turned off, which isn't noticeable with my case, even in a dark room smile
