"Click on the 'Click here to create a new subscription link'. From the drop down product list, select LOTRO Beta. Enter your beta registration key in the next field."

Which beta registration key? can't find any key anywhere.

Re: Lord of the Rings: Online

Are there mounts in LOTRO?

Yes! Horses are available for Men and Elves, while Hobbits and Dwarves will find ponies to be more suitable mounts.

Im not rolling dorf, that's for sure...

Re: Lord of the Rings: Online

I give up... I've registered to two pages, and when I try to get my betakey or download the client it says I need to register.... piece of crap.

Edit:
Got it now, had to register to 3 different sites... how hard can it be? I'm tired of this game already

I only registerd twice, first time one the site where you got the key, and then on the COG site, where i needed to use my key to set up the gaming account. Actually, the game looks pretty cool, for exploring middle-earth and such. Dont quite get the combat system and skill/traits function yet, and there's no PvP besides an arena you can battle on and it doesnt sound like it's a huge world.

The approximate size of Eriador at launch is 50 million square meters.

Dont know how large Azeroth is but i bet it's abit larger tongue

Re: Lord of the Rings: Online

Played for 10 minutes and my first impression is:

This game just plain sucks.
Messy interface
Boring Combatsystem
Dumb animations (hello dwarves)
You can't go wherever you want, like you should be able to in a MMORPG. Which means you can't play this game as YOU want.
NO LOTR MUSIC

It has nice graphics though, but that's about it.
Did I mention it doesn't feature the LOTR movie music? no? BAH! Disappointing.

Re: Lord of the Rings: Online

Dont know, actually i belive it's the third or fourth beta round, it's said to be released sometime around April. There's _alot_ of graphic glitches, and the server isnt stable at all, so it wasnt that all enjoyable to play, though it looked nice enough. And Apox was right about the "not beeing able to move freely" kinda disapointing as that should be the main point of the game, to explore middle-earth on your own. Other then that i didnt find it all that bad, may be more suited for a ordinary rpg-game then a MMO tho tongue

Re: Lord of the Rings: Online

downloading it now, wana test too smile But kinda sounds bad if you can't move freely.. About UI, well even WoW had sucky UI when it was released, it's tend to be like that in MMORPG:s.. It's really nice to compare games now, when you have experience about game that's been developed over 2 years now and game that's about to realese soon.. Though personally, i have waited more to test Warhammer online and Conan smile

Re: Lord of the Rings: Online

I have tried this game now. Levelled one char to 5 and another to 6 (wich is around lvl 10 wow levels). Some really nice things.. some not so nice.

First of all: It's almost COMPLETELY identical to wow in terms of UI, combatsystem, charactersystem, loot, mobs, instances and well..

Differences:
- Graphic: This is where lotro is amazing. The chars look a bit less cartoony then wow, but not nearly as "realistic" as the horrible characters in oblivion. Surroundings and areas are a bit more realistic than wow too. works good.
- Gameplay: A bit more "wobbly" than wow. Probably to enhance the realism. Nothing beats the wow feeling of gameplay though.
- UI is a bit messy. Very similar to wow, just more stuff and less comprehensive.
- World: This was where I got my hopes up. I zoomed out from the map menu, and could see the whole middle earth.. But no.. you cant go to Gondor or Rohan, Mordor or Moria. you are limited to Eriador only (area from the first part of the first book). Very dissapointing imo. They may save the goods for patches and expansions, but this is a crushing blow for many potential customers.
- Single player instances. Feels like a game within the game. Works good, and I have wanted similar in wow.

Over all impression: Lovely graphic, some good ideas. But too similar to wow, and sucks that its limited to such a "small" part of lotr world.

edit: oh and the music is almost non existant. there is some inside taverns and instances. but not like wow, where you get faced with great music already in northshire. sollution: lotr movie soundtrack on your stereo.

I have heard the rest of middle earth is released later on (with patches etc.)
Pretty nice way to keep things new. (if done right)

Re: Lord of the Rings: Online

I've read a great deal of their FAQ and their idea of the game on their homepage, and they from what i can understand they are doing, as you said obscure, saving other parts of middle-earth for later. The game evolves around the third age, or the war of the ring, as we may know it. And the first release is the first part of the journey, as the COI (Characters of interest) lists Tom Bombadil, Eldron and Gandalf _The Grey_, and the same for POI (Places of interest) list places like Weathertop, the ruined watch tower and the prancing pony. But im really hoping they can get som more structure to everything, like the char. and stats sheet, traits and skill managing. Hoping they can make this work though, since i love the concept, LOTR freak ftw! tongue
