Hit rating trick

I figured a pretty useful trick to work around hit rating a bit in order to optimize damage under a raid scenario.

Lets assume 142 as a cap (hence, lets exclude draeneis heroic presence and surefooted - both enchant and talent). This is of course against a boss, thus lvl 73 mob. Trash mobs are usually lvl 71 (with some exceptions), so while it's the bosses that really count, being hit-capped actually costs as a nerf on trash (since we're over the cap). How to counter that? Let me introduce Hot Spicy Talbuk. It's a consumable that increases hit rating by 20 (and spirit by 30 smile ). Come to think about it - the only consumable affecting hit rating I'm aware of.

Yesterday in MH I was at 102 hit rating (that's 6,27% against a lvl 70 if I'm not mistaken). Judging by the statistics my autoshots never missed, while steady had a 0,1% miss rate. At bosses I was just over 1% miss rate but I did not use the +hit consumable, so would be even better had I had it.

edit: the above was probably affeceted by presence of Hoya in my group - that's additional +1% hit for a hunter as well I think?
The main point still holds though.

Re: Hit rating trick

From what I've read in EJ forum, you will gain more from 20agi if you already are hit capped (142) than 20 hitrating if you're below the cap. But then again 20hit rating is better than 20agi if you're not hit capped.

(and if I'm not mistaken, draenei shamans give 1% spell hit, not melee hit)

*edit*

I've been using 20 hitrating food on bosses the past few raids due to not being hitcapped against lvl 73 mobs.
I still believe that hitrating is the best dps stat before you reach the cap.

Re: Hit rating trick

but to be more percise - what do you find more suitable - 142 hit rating from items and 20 agility food buff (att all times) or 122 hit rating and 20 agility from food buff on trash, 20 hit rating from food buff on bosses?
I'm pretty sure that the latter is optimal.

Re: Hit rating trick

I still think you're missing my point a bit.
I'm not crying that I need to drop some lovely agility in favour of some puny hit chance.
What I'm saying is that overall, looking at the perspective of a whole raid, it is not optimal to go for 142 hit. In order to do so, one will need to trade some crit\agility away. And you will only use the last 20 points on boss fights (which are important, but statistically constitute the lesser part of raids). So what I'm saying is - get the 'trash cap' (ca. 120) and use 'offensive' food buff on trash. Only at boss fights go for the hit cap and use food buff to get it. That way overall raid damage will be maxed.

Anyways, this is a matter of difference below 0,5% dmg so nothing major. Just wanted to share the idea.

Re: Hit rating trick

all in all  bosses > trash

in MH mages and locks will do most of trash dmg anyways, so if you got 142 rating it really doesnt matter that much.
