About account security issues :)

Seems some hackers are doing their stuff again. Or just some bored nerd. Anyways got one of these emails again and it was pretty convincing.. until I noticed the small nyances. Heres a reminder for all. Be vigilant and keep an eye out for anything suspicious when your account info is considered! Without furder ado, heres the email that I got today:

_______________________________________

Greetings,

An investigation of your World of Warcraft account has found strong evidence that the account in question is being sold or traded.
As you may not be aware of, this conflicts with Blizzard\'s EULA under section 4 Paragraph B which can be found here:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/eula.html

and Section 8 of the Terms of Use found here:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html

The investigation will be continued by Blizzard administration to determine the action to be taken against your account.
If your account is found violating the EULA and Terms of Use, your account can, and will be suspended/closed/or terminated.

In order to keep this from occurring, you should immediately verify that you are the original owner of the account.

To verify your identity please visit the following webpage:

https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/login/l … index.html

Only Account Administration will be able to assist with account retrieval issues.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter, and your continued interest in World of Warcraft.

Sincerely,

Vastarmer
Account Administration
Blizzard Entertainment

Now this message got me a bit worried in the start.. Until I read that the account they wanted me to access was www.worldofwarcraft.com (and since I got an EU account, that shouldnt be the case). That was the first thing that got me suspicious. But after I did, I did a careful mouseover of the links (the weblinks were straight links in the email) and noticed all other links were legit.. but the login-account one. It redirected you on a page on the address http://h1 .ripway .com/accountadmission/.. which obviously isnt a Blizzard address. Someone just had used html-code on the email to make it look like it was the real deal.

So be on lookout for scam attempts like this again. Just to be sure.

People are like slinkies. Cheap and useless, but they still make you smile when you push them down the stairs.

a note to all. Blizzard stated that they would never warn people first only on some extremely rare situation. So basic rule. Blizz don't warn. They lock the account, then investigate ^^

Also, they never ask for the account password in any case, so nobody give that up.

Re: About account security issues :)

I had exactly the same email. I have also gotten numerous WOTLK beta invitation mails with links that lead to strange websites where you have to enter your account details. And that's not just name and pass, also your real name, adress, emailadress etc.

Basically, check where the links go before you click them smile
