well, it says on wow europe that shaman makes a good offtank... so I kinda copied it from there... but it doesn't change the fact that a druid cannot tank end game bosses (without 5-6 healers). no shield, no plate armor = fail! 300% armor boost wont help you... puny leather armor.. pfft.

take it from me, i've played a shaman for a good 2 years or more.. shamans cant tank, they couldnt even when rockbiter still had a +aggro bonus, and they still cant.

and by tanking i mean successfully holding aggro and migitating most of the incoming damage while the rest of the dps go almost all out on the target. they can if needed tank some non hard hitting mob in a 5man non heroic. but that could be done by a resto druid, a warrior of any type, a warlock, a pvpgeared mage, hell.. anyone can hold a mob in a 5man for some time.

they originally probably were intended to have the same tanking capabilities as paladins (remember when only horde had shamans and they were supposed to be the "match" of paladins?) but that was thrown away long before TBC.. it's just that blizzard FAILS at updating their class descriptions, they should never be taken seriously.

oh and we've had druid tanks all the way so far into MH, and i dont doubt for a second that they will remain useful all the way to illidan and past.

in other words, you seem to be full of feces.

Re: First

Earths Grasp?! oh come on, what are you going to use it for? stoneclaw totem? dude if you even want to get close to tanking you have to have IMBA equipment and no doubt you'll outaggro your stoneclaw totem as it does NOT increase threat gain on it via any talent. Screw Earths Grasp and take one off Convection go for FULL Mental Quickness in enhancement tree. And lose the parry talent, 30% threat reduction is too much threat lost.
Either way look at the armor an enhancement shaman has in dps gear with those talents, 13k? 14k maybe? that's not nearly enough. No doubt I'd go for non set epics from high end instances with agi to boost up the armor more because the shaman enhancement tiers don't have agi on it but crit chance. The dodge is ridiculous, no shield block at all. It's useless to try.

There's no viable way for shamans to tank with any spec so don't get it in your messed up mind to try and create one.
If there ever comes out some shaman tanking abilities/talents, I'll be the one to try them out and post my findings but face it, there won't, mail tanks are WHACK! anywhere but level 60 instances that INCLUDING a shield.

To sum all the issues up.

Too little armor.
Too little hp from high end gear.
Too few threat supportive spells/abilities.
Too little dodge.
Too little block rating.

Maybe I forgot something but this list alone is more than enough to say, do not try to tank BC instances.

edit: oh and do NOT believe every thing wow europe tells you

Re: First

maybe thats all true,,, and yes, spirit weapon talent was a minor blooper, btw. a Dark ritual Shaman tanked the warlock boss in SL heroic, he mofo pwned his ass easy with his fire elemental:) but as I also got a proof of, he sucked for everything else:P but that still doesn't mean a druid, again, a shieldless class, can tank bosses that cleave. screw dodge, they still die! I dare you to use a druid tank on a Black Temple boss:P with your normal number of MT healers:) but as offtanks, they are great, but nothing beats the paladin aoe tanking:) absolutly awsome crowd control smile

but anyways... lets keep it on the subject at hand shall we... so what do you recon they are gonna be used for? dps'ers? to classify the Death knight as a plate geared warlock seems undermining it a bit.. there has to be more, warlock is a boring fear dot fear dot class, COMMON! But ofc. I'm guessing they can be that also, but I exept so much more than just a plated warlock.. or else I wont even bother. I already have a warlock and plate armor wont make a difference, if I'll have the same raid role as the warlock (long ranged fighting or aggro holding magical bosses).

/pray for a super nova of inventiveness hitting all Blizzard employees big_smile or something tongue

Re: First

YOU HAVE SO RETARDED STATEMENTS.

How can you with the amount of 70s you have, be so stupid??
listen to what you are saying: "but that still doesn't mean a druid, again, a shieldless class, can tank bosses that cleave. screw dodge, they still die!"

Screw dodge?? what are you talking about. Are you even aware of how much of a fool you make yourself look like with comments like that?
When not having a shield, dodge will go in to replace it. How can you be so ignorant to challenge us to have druid tanks in BT like its something special?? Alot of guilds have druid tanks in BT. and yes, with the same ammount of healers, as the pala or warrior tanks.

Re: First

Well @ golrock, no druid can tank illidan afaik, because of shear.. but a druid can very easily offtank the fire pew pew elementals that spawn.

@ palma: you made my day btw, druids ARE good tanks, depends on the person playing + their gear, for instance against RoS when I have 55% dodge, I am the only one that can survive 2 fixates, makes p1 there so easy that people can sleep through it wink

So please, do a little l2p before making comments that upset mojorising please!

so you are saying, with enough dodge, anyone can tank a boss? I'm just told that in order to reach 102.4% avoidance you need a shield, (for blocking) maybe thats wrong?

then excuse me:)

hehe... yeah... they also tank... dont you? smile

anyways, this topic is about the Death knight, discussing tanking abilities for other classes is irrelevant. here, the death knight abilities should be discussed:) so carry on:)

Unholy aura... thats gonna be sweet, just standing in the middle of the aoe mob group with your aura and use your other aoe abilities:) (unholy runes)

Druid's high amount of dodge as well as their 75% damage reduction from armor makes crushing blows a nonissue, if you fail to realise this then you fail in epic proportions, so did the ones trying to tell you that you need to reach 102,4% avoidance to be able to tank a boss cause no warrior tank will reach that amount of total avoidance without gimping his health by over 5-6k health unbuffed, and that sacrifice aint worth it.

http://www.wowwiki.com/Death_knight_abilities  <---- there.

As of yet, unholy aura isn't applied yet, but I'm sure it will, as all the death knights in game now (Baron Rivendare, Naxxramas trash, Lord Alexei Barov (Scholomance) and so on) have this aura that makes every living thing that comes near them lose hp (some amount pr. sec. ) so I'm sure that this is something you can just turn off and on (as paladin aura) or so I hope smile

but there are other interresting spells, such as Army of the dead: http://www.wowwiki.com/Army_of_the_Dead (not sure how this will work, but as the name says you wake up stuff that then become your minions that fight for you) , Unholy Embrace: http://www.wowwiki.com/Unholy_Embrace (HoT to DoT effect, that can actually instant kill any low HP druid or priest muhuhahaha, lasts 6 sec. ) and Death and Decay: http://www.wowwiki.com/Death_and_Decay (AoE spell, currently used by warlock on Chess event (the Queen), Teron Gorfiend in that quest where you control him and so on) and last but not least, Blood boil: http://www.wowwiki.com/Blood_Boil ( a Blood rune DoT) I'm guessing this is the same as warrior rend or some other bleeding effect. .... I hope Death Coil will be one as well, as it belongs to the death knight and not the warlock smile (or so I read).

these are all dps abilities, I hope they come with more soon, to really see what this class can do.

I see no difference in that and pulling yourself to a target and stunning them(charge/intercept)
Not only DK's will take use of the new push/pull mechanics though.

Sounds like another way to get your enemy incapable to get away from you. Blink did the trick, charge/intercept, seal of justice, crippling poison, shadowstep hell even an enchant or gem could help on that. I'm not sure if you can call it the same as stunning apox as it in no way affects movement speed for as far as my knowledge goes.

Re: First

that new taunting thing is totally awsome... you force the target to attack you 3-5 times (if I read correctly), it cannot be resisted so it will work in PvP too I guess , its freaking awsome. the pull thing is really awsome too... the push... not so much. It will be the ultimative ganking tool. Pushing ppl off ledges n shit.

Arena teams that have a DK will have the upper hand. 1 dies, he turns you into a ghoul and you continue fighting, the next one dies, he turns into a ghoul and so on + army of the dead + gargoyle ... you cannot win smile it will be awsome to try.

and Apox, I'm really glad you have that thought about paladins, you use to play one yeah? I freaking hate them tongue these are your words ok, they are wusses that hide behind their bubble, /spit.

anyways... on the subject at hand, I think the DK will be totally awsome in every way. so basicly if you want one class for each roll, you lvl a deathknight and a shaman. The shaman for healing (as it is the best raid healer in game) and DK for everything else as DK's only heal themselves with their aura if I read correctly yeah?

btw. here are some screenshots of the DK char screen for each race and gender, enjoy:

Re: First

Seems like playing DK is abit messy.
I went to tyrs Hand to fight elites, and my playstyle ended up, something like this:
FACEROLL over my spells.
All you do is waiting for some cd somewhere to end, so you can spam it again. It feels like there is no "real" playstyle here, as much as just spamming what ever abilities you have :S

It feels extremely confusing. There is like 3 or 4 melee hit abilites that are named different, but kinda does the same. do x% dmg and additional y% dmg if z% deseases are up.

ohh, and if you are unholy you have like a pet that are just crazy + gargoyle :S
not sure what to think about this class. One side of me really likes it, and the other think it feels abit broken and to messy

Re: First

not at all.
An enchancement shaman would use something like stormstrike / shock to kill his enemies.

DKs have 200 abilities you can just spam in random order. It feels like a rogue who have the possibility to spam a finisher before applying combo points, and thats what makes it confusing.
In my eyes there lack a "can only be used if target is effected by X" kinda limit to some of the moves.

Its probably because its so new, and you get a shitload of skills and talents in notime... i meen, in 3 hours i went from starting area > outlands, and there is so many new abilities that its confusing in the start to know when and where to use them.
