Hi,
I was checking our mages' data in Recount yesterday to learn what makes Wrion reign all the dmg charts on boss fights (I still have no idea, except that he benefits alot from T7 4-part bonus , and I found out we all seem to use different rotations: at least the spell usage % is not the same for all of us. I wonder now: what's Your usual FFB build spell rotation?
For me, on a boss fight it looks like this:
- apply Living Bomb
- apply full scorch debuff (skip to the next point if anyone else is doing it)
- start spamming FFB until LB wears off; usually it's 4 or 5 Frostfire bolts, depending on wheter we have heroism/Icy Veins or not
- reapply LB as soon as possible
Whenever my Hot Streak procs, I try to cast scorch before instapyro (when im the only mage, ofc), and if my Living Bomb has expired during the last cast that triggered Hot Streak, I also reapply LB before pressing the Pyroblast button.
With this rotation, I only care about:
- LB icon and timer on it
- Hot Streak icon (I dont use any mods, but I'd use it if there were any)
- scorch timer (when I'm the only mage around)
In this rotation, I don't use Fire Blast at all. I used to love it in raids: I was spamming it like crazy for all my raiding life, but I don't anymore, because very often it crits right after the FFB crit and it's Ignite overwrites FFB's Ignite. Which sucks. What's Your opinion on Fire Blast spam during bossfights?
Additionally, I have noticed that some mages (not only in raids, but also in heroics) dont spam Living Bomb at all. What's the reason? Is it worth it - or worthless, in Your opinion?
Here's what I do:
- on light trash i ALWAYS put Living bomb on a target that's not marked as KEEL, because marked targets usually get KEELD in couple of seconds.
- in the AOE situation, i try to put LB on the strongest target and then start Blizzarding. Although, to be honest, sometimes I CBA doing it if the whole pack goes down in 10 seconds...
- on bossfight I want my LB to tick all the time. It's tick is not impressive, but come on: it detonates. The more it detonates, the more dmg I deal. And the key to more detonates is simple: it needs to be reapplied every time, as soon as the old one detonated

Nice post.
Now ask Wrion how it should be done properly. xD
Tho I should prolly do the same with Bols.

T7 bonus is only +5% to crit damage bonus so its worse than the metagem which is +3% to crit total damage.

So I am assuming you have some points in frost (for hit talent) and the rest in fire? cause I found out the hard way that frost sucks in HC instances, especially on timed and I think I've done enough pvp for now so I want to focus on pve for a while.
Though my dps was off by just a little from the fire mage in the party he didn't seem to go oom nearly as fast as I did, sure he had like 6k more mana but I think if I had a more mana efficient spec which I suppose yours is pretty much I think I could dish out more dps than that mage did at that point and that's just it, I want to dish out more dps for my parties benefits and definitely want to use FFB more, I like it.
I was thinking a spec like this would be interesting to use and would like some oppinions about as I consider myself to be totally clueless on the plain of pve instancing.

The ffb specc some mages use now you can find in this thread, posted by wrion:

Was gonna link the build itself, but can't get it to work, guess it's just too early in the morning
The 0/53/18 ffb specc is really similar to the one you've put together, only difference is some points in the firetree that's not needed for ffb, and are placed in the frost tree instead

Using frost anywhere outside arenas/BG's is such a huge fail that I can't even think about it.
STOP DOING IT RIGHT NOW ALL OF YOU!
This: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=oZfVc0RhIuVubhstbIccoc is the only uber dps build around. Viable for:
- raids
- HC dungeons
- solo outdoor (not BG/arena!) pvp if You're the one that attacks
- farming
Until Arcane Blast gets fixed, no other build will even come close to this one in terms of DPS and DPM (damage per mana). And it has a rotation so simple that even warlocks could learn it. It's a little bit crit dependant, because You want that Hot Streak to proc really often.
