The people behind The Pirate Bay was today found guilty in violating copyright law, and sentenced to one year in prison, and to pay 30 million Swedish Kroner in damages to movie companies.
I'm speechless to say the least. As if the movie companies don't earn enough money, and this won't even do squat in the war against piracy. It's a war that can't be won anyway.

didn't they change swedish law etc so ISP's have to release client information so downloaders can get arrested etc ?
about PB im sure if they take it to another court , they will win . you might as well do /random 2 1 judge will think they're guilty other will think they're not
just a matter of interpretation of the rules really

They should go against google next then, since you can easily get torrent files from google.com aswell:

How's that? Maybe not for the torrent community, but it's still a blow against democracy. It just shows that the media companies has enough power influence and in the end bypass swedish law.

How the hell are they gonna be able to pay that ridiculous amount of money? A bit harsh IMO to fine that just for running a certain website.

we the swedes now is under the law called Ipred that allows the companys that distributes cds dvds etc to ask for the ip number from our inet providers so that they can send us letter telling us to either pay this or welcome to court !
aslo the ammount was 100 mill swe kronor at first but got lowered to 30
so atm most ppl are not downloading anything untill we can get a safe way of doing so, they are after the uploaders but as all torrent sides more or less requiers ratio to be able to download your forced to upload at the same time aka breaking the law
