The Elder Scrolls Online

Looks awesome. Love the series, and even though I think it's probably not gonna be super new and exciting, I can't wait to give it a try.

Want to see something super new and exciting? Try The Secret World. It's very under rated game for wrong and bad reasons.

Elder Scrolls MMO still has a long way to go, but it looks nice.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online

Tried Secret World during beta weekend or whatever. Hated every minute of it. It is not under rated-just bad. And for many valid reasons.

Being a person who hated every single minute spent in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, I have to admit this looks ok.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online

Personally in my opinion its going to flop like all the other MMO's sure it's going to last a while like SWTOR Rift and GW2 but the number count is going back and the people will just folk back to WoW.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online

Most likely, but I've decided to give it a shot anyway. Can only be positively surprised at this point in the MMO world.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online

How many features and choices it will ship with is a concern to me as it is with every MMO. WoW just have so many convenient things like LFG, early access to mounts, transmog, reforging, huge banks, heirlooms, (even LFR and addons to some extent) etc. Not to forget the fluid combat system it is running on (I ragequitted so many times in swtor pvp because of BAD responsiveness...) Now I'm not saying that none of the latest MMOs doesn't have any of this, but if they ship this thing the same way SWTOR launched, so very stripped of pretty much everything, with not just a lack of features but also so few options, I don't know. On the good side, the graphics looks nice, the focus on exploration CAN work, but I don't want to traverse a barrens-sized area 10 times by foot just to get to a new quest hub. A good variety in armor designs and also hopefully good looking armors does as well sound promising since ye, appearance counts, especially when you're not competing.

It was awesome at first, then when the assassin came, it went beyond awesome and became pure nerd porn.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online

I kinda have to agree. Somehow WoW nailed it perfect, setting the standards for every other MMO.

currently playing TBC on a private server. Not without bugs, but it's the closest thing one can find to the original expansion. So far; Loving it.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online

I seriously hope finally someone could do something better than Blizzard rather than just copying them and remove World of Warcraft from the top spot, like these guys could do with this game. Because WoW has very much stagnated and is not worthy of the top spot anymore in my opinion. And this is where the nostalgia could begin, but I'll just skip it so I dont begin to cry.

Seems like you, and many of the current gen MMO developers make the mistake of assuming that all those millions of mmo subscribers are up for grabs, and can be pulled away from WoW. This is most likely not the case. Many of the MMO players in WoW will likely just quit MMOs once they either get tired of WoW, or when it dies. EA/Bioware in particular were guilty of this, expecting to reach 10 million+ subscribers inside the first few months of launch, but they rushed the game far too much.

Funcom had a much more realistic goal, only aiming for 500k-1M subscribers I believe (bare minimum for keeping it alive was around 250k according to one of the lead devs in the company), but they still managed to fall short of the goal, due to the skill system not being approachable, and easy to use in the start, by the average gamer, as well as very limited endgame, which consisted of pretty much only pvp, or running 5mans of varying difficulty.

Well I dont understand how everyone can expect a new game to instantly deliver the same size of quality as WoW does today (even the developers?). Every game needs time to develop. And are the only potential gamers in the world right now playing WoW and thus are not for grabs? I dont think so. WoW grew year by year. Why cannot this happen with other game?

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online

Lydo, i think the MMO players of the western world are pretty much all playing wow or EVE online.
WoW grew indeed over time, but it did so by killing of the competition one by one, and there was no "main" game back in 2005, today you dont have to have room to grow, you need to steal from wow.
