.. thinking hard about the first tier demonology talents. They are all so useful and yet I cant seem to be able to take off points from either side trees to get them 
People are like slinkies. Cheap and useless, but they still make you smile when you push them down the stairs.

Too many spells to handle 
Corrup, CoA, Siphon, Immolate, Incinerate, Conflag - and repeat!
Would give good dps in raids though. But it's not really _great_ at something. Medium dots, medium destro etc.

You lose the fire stuff (which I don't really like anyways) and gain good drain, dark pact, instant fear which keeping big crits from ruin with 3 points left over for whatever you like. Perhaps imp drain life and lifetap for PvE or + stamina / imp HS for PvP.
Depends on how you like to play and what you wanna do though
*shadow bolts scale much better than incinerate and works nice with shadowpriests with the imp. s.bolt buff
*if you really wanna theorycraft for max damage in raid boss situations deep affliction is where it's at until you can get imba crit gear which still maintaining decent +hit (~30%) when ruin out performs UA
*afflcition is much more healer friendly with a strong siphon life and dark pact.

about the first build I built the whole thing around solo availability of choices, and very good solo survivability options WITHOUT going demonology.
=> siphon life, grim reach, fel concentration etc for affli viability. making shadow dots good. shadowburn and ruin for obvious choices while going up the destro tree. conflagrate as well as shadowburn for those moments of needed instant dmg. and finally last but not least, backlash + nightfall for instant shadowbolting from two different talents! combine that with soul leech... Thus I got adequate dots / health drain with lots of instant dmg (and health gain through soul leech) for when needed.
Other what I was thinking was the SL/SL or lots of affli for CoEx + dotkiting / dot+drain / survivability.
have I gone totally haywire with this?
