Microphone issues.

Hey guys, I could use some advise.

Just the other day my headphones seemed a bit dodgy when the sound disappeared from the right speaker in the headphone. I tried to fix it by using some tape on the cable and keep it into one position, in which it did seem to work but now it's kinda ticking me off cause I took off the tape and it's doing it again. What I think went on with it was that there was a crack in the inside of the cable which made a small gap between the 2 parts of cable. Sometimes this cable connects to the other and creates a spark or something that makes an annoying sort of thumping sound each time it connects. Leaving me with a bigass headache.

But that's not why I need help. I tossed it away because it was broken and bought a new one 2 days ago. Unlike all the other headphones I've ever had this one wasn't USB, this one has a green/red plug which need to be put in the right sockets. Having done this I hear all sound like it should be heard BUT, the microphone doesn't work. So, I decided to buy another new one, assuming this one was broken when I googled it's general issues and found a lot of issues where the microphone on it would stop working after so long. So, I bought another new one, specifically searched for USB headphone and found this one. Twice as expensive and has a good rep on the interwebs. So it arrived today and I plugged it in, it's another one of those green/red plug ones, think it's called analog but what do I care, I only use them to talk to theredon and lamme with so. The sound works great, just as it should BUT AGAIN, the microphone doesn't work.

I'm really bothered by this cause I have to wear that broken one again to be able to talk to my buddies ingame. So I could use some help, does anybody know how/what might be causing this? and how I get rid of it?
I have a Realtek AC97 Audio card and am currently downloading some drivers from the net. Which shouldn't be the problem because I keep my drivers up to date regularly.
HALPS MEH! I HAS TRUBLE!

Ballie.

Re: Microphone issues.

click the Realtek application next to the clock (lower right corner).
the recent windows actualization automatically ticed the 'disable microphone' as checked, does deactivating the mic. I'm not at home atm so can't give you exact details. Uncheck it and you're back in the saddle.

Re: Microphone issues.

Don't have one of those next to my clock as far as I can see.

But I'll definitely check my settings in the realtek folder

edit: the Realtek sound manager folder I have seems to be empty. Strangely enough.
No idea how or what but I'm atleast gonna install the drivers again.

Re: Microphone issues.

NVM that, it was actuall in the right corner, not marked as Realtek properties but as Sound Effect. So I opened the screen but did not find any sign of a "disable microphone" cube. I'm not even sure what to do now.

Re: Microphone issues.

Big chance its a sound setting. Are you sure it doesn`t work (in other words, how did you test it), and are you sure all you settings are right?

Try to post you sound settings (both out and input).

Oh and can you please put your signatures next to each other?

Re: Microphone issues.

Found out the problem. found this on the internet and used it. Worked fine.

My system had the mic grayed out as if my system was incapable of accepting mic input. I couldn't get my mic to respond for recording or any speech application. Here's what I did:

1. Go to control panel, then sounds etc. button, then sounds and audio devices
2. on sounds and audio devices properties, select volume tab, and click on 'device volume' 'advanced' button.
3. on master volume, click options, then properties.
4. under the 'playback' option, where it says 'show the following volume controls', make sure the box is checked that corresponds to the place you are plugging in your mic.

Hope this saves somebody from the frustration I was experiencing.

Todd

all I had to do was switch the volume higher
